Abstract

Cotton candy has been a favourite sweet treat for generations, which brings back the memories of carefree childhood days at fairs and festivals. However, the sugary delight has recently found itself at the centre of a heated debate in the states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, where authorities banned the sale and production of it due to the presence of Rhodamine-B which is a cancer-causing chemical. The Health Minister declared it a punishable offence under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. This move has sparked debates among policymakers, health experts, vendors, and consumers. Everyone should be conscious of their food consumption. Nowadays, food additives include a lot of dangerous compounds. It is important for people to know whether the food they consume is safe or not. This is one action taken to address the issue.
